Mi Querida Familia,
This week I´m going to go really missionary on all of you and yeah... :)
So transfers came and went and right now I´m waiting on an island called Tenerife waiting for my new companion. Elder McAllister from American Fork I think. We´re going to be on Fuerteventura for a least 6 more weeks then we´ll see after that.
I´m really grateful for the opportunity I had to serve with Elder Regehr. He´s a good elder and you were right. I learned a lot from him. Probably the biggest thing I learned from him is that, the mission doesn´t change people. Living the Gospel does. That when we come out on the mission and really start to live the gospel that´s when we allow change to take place in ourselves. We allow the spirit to take over and work within us. I heard something I really liked today. We as people, when we´re stuck in a dark place we wait for God or somebody else to turn on the lights. However what our Heavenly Father wants us to do is take these few steps in the dark and try to find the way for ourselves. Trust in Him. This life is our opportunity. To find the light. Walk, and take those first few steps in the dark.
It´s funny how much we can learn from the example of the "younger generation." Haha even though Elder Regehr´s only a few months younger than me, in the mission a year´s a long/short time. However I learned some pretty good stuff from him. Another one is a love of good, spiritual music. He was in Men´s Chorus at BYU and to be honest he talked me into trying out and at least seeing how I´d do. He´s such a strong spiritual presence and some of the most spiritual moments we had together were when we were singing. So good. Listen to uplifting music everyone. It´s one of the most powerful tools that the Lord and Satan have.
Another thing. Learning in all situations. We had a Branch Activity focused on missionary work on Friday and one of the members there said that she was bored. This kind of surprised Elder Regehr and I because this is the kind of member who´s always reading the scriptures looking for some answer to a profound question she has and the kind of member that every time we go over there we learn something new. Well she told Elder Regehr that she was bored and that when you put a high school student in a 2nd grade class, they´ll get bored. After she told that to him. The first thing he retorted was, "Would the prophet have learned something from this?" We can and should learn from every situation. We are the one´s who chose if we progress or not. Why spend time, money, and effort on something if you aren´t going to learn from it?
I think that it´s something we need to "re"realize every now and then. We´re still working hard. We need to spend more time out in the street and knocking doors because I feel that if we just start doing that then we´ll be able to find some of the Lord´s elect. We´re going to have a ward Halloween activity on Friday this week. Halloween isn´t a huge holiday here but it´s starting to get bigger. Everybody claims that they don´t like America but then they watch all of our movies, copy our holidays, and listen to all of our music.... Cute confused people.
Feelings: I´m doing well. A little sad to see Elder Regehr go but ya know... Um I´m motivated. We had a really good Sacrament Meeting yesterday all about missionary work and I just want to go and talk to people. Umm moist? Could that be a feeling? I´m on Tenerife right now which is one of the greenest islands out of the seven. (Mom if you looked Tenerife up it´s not quite as "brown" and "desolate" as Fuerte) I´m here waiting and enjoying all of the green I can before I fly back to Africa tonight.
Thanks for all of your love and support fam y amigos and I hope you all have a fantastica week!
Love,
Elder Dweebie
P.s. My chord´s still broken. If you got me garments I would love that. All of mine are turning gray. I like the Medium Tall drylux (round neck) and mesh tops. Then the size 30" bottoms cotton poly ribbed. Probably three of four pairs would be perfect.
P.p.s. Christmas stuff. Don´t worry to much. I don´t need decorations I still have some from last year and really the only necesities are: shoes and deodorant. :)
