October 13, 2014

Hola querida familia,

Ok well first off to answer some questions. I´M OK. Haha sorry I don´t respond to all questions but it´s because my health has been super good lately and really the only issue I have is eating too much with the members (who are all very clean and about just as concerned for our health as you are Mama) the main thing I need to worry about is my waist line. ;) Thanks for worrying about me but I´m good, Elder Regehr´s fine and I actually have plenty of medicine to last me until at least Christmas, along with my contacts. Don´t be too worried about me. I´m doing great and I´m being very carefull with all of the people we meet and are in contact with.

So now on to more interesting things. This week I went on exchanges with the other elders in the district which meant I was able to go and get to visit and teach on Lanzarote. It was really cool to get to see the isalnd and how the missionaries there work. So that was fun. I guess if you really want Mom you could watch a documentary on Lanzarote. Lots of interesting things...

We were out contacting a few days ago and we passed by a pizza place that we always pass by. We´re really good friends with the lady there and I´m convinced that she will get baptized one day. So we stopped and talked to her for a minute or two as we usually do. We talked about the islands and how the church was struggling a little bit here. Just in the sense that we haven´t had a baptism here for a few months and that the works just a little slower and she said something that was sad but true. Fuerteventura´s known as the island that doesn´t progress. As in when ever somebody wants to come and improve on the island and make it better for tourism or anything like that the people here just completely shut it down... Haha super encouraging for missionary work right?!! Oh well. One day...

Even if the island doesn´t progress we´re still learning a TON and we´re helping the ward. Obviously the best way to help the ward would be find more people and baptize them however the ward needs to be solid so that whoever we do baptize will stay in the church and continue progressing to the temple. One thing we´ve learned is that our members are pretty strong and that people from other churches... Are kind of punks. There´s this evangalist guy that comes to our english class and likes to make fun of Joseph Smith and tell us we´re wrong and stuff like that. He likes to tell us he respects all religions and then begins to tell us a few things about doctrine he doesn´t even know. Long story short he stopped some members in the grocery store and told them they´re confused and tried inviting them to actually read the bible. Soo looks like somebody´s fulfilling the prophesy that Joseph´s name would be know by millions for good or for evil.

Thing learned. Don´t listen to evangelists... They don´t know what they´re talking about.

This week was really low in numbers for us but it made us even more determined to work harder this week and try to make up the difference. Our investigators aren´t progressing substantially which is making it a little difficult. People don´t want to commit here and it´s slowing the work down by a lot. We´re looking and fighting to change that and help people realize that coming unto Christ is the most important thing they could be doing right now. Something I really liked in Preach My Gospel is that it says that anyone´s doubts about the church all link back to the Book Of Mormon. If it´s true or not. There is absolutely no way it´s wrong which means that it is as it claims to be the word of God. That was something that we learned this week. The importance and simplicity of having a testimony of the Book of Mormon. If only everyone could read it!

My feelings are good. Nothing huge to report, or anything funny or as exciting as "Whopper Watching." Haha gotta love Sar bear´s emails.

Thanks for everything and remember that the church is kind of, absolutely, possitively, ridicously, true.

Love,
Elder Hawks

Sorry no pictures this week. The chord´s being lame soo hopefully next time.
