February 23, 2015

Oh my goodnesss this week was by FAR one of the best weeks I´ve had on the mission. Spiritually off the charts, with a lot of instruction, miracles and everything.

Ok so to start off. This week was loaded with meetings. We had the mission Tour on Thursday so that meant on Wednesday night we did splits because there are some elders that live a ways away and they needed to come up and spend the night with us so that they could get here on time. Sooooo I went on splits with Elder Dyer! Haha we´ve literally been with eachother like the whole mission and I love it! He´s turned into a really good missionary and it was good to work with him again. He gave me a really good complement while we were together. We had a lesson that was ok and I was over analyzing on how we could have done it better and I was stressing out a little bit about it and he was very impressed by that. He said that when I know that something doesn´t go as well as it could have, I make the change so that it can improve, and he said that that was something he really admired about me and that was a huge complement for me. So we had a really good day together and then we had the Mission Tour the next day which made it 10 times better.

So Elder Dyches of the 70 came and spoke to us about a lot of things, but probably the biggest thing I got out of it was, "It´s soo easy when I want to, and soo hard when I have to." He talked about how to work better with the ward. Gain their trust don´t just be there to do your "two years" but to really focus on the why you´re here and how to magnify your calling while you´re at it. It was really good how he took such a basic principle like, Faith, Obedience and Diligence and said that if you work your hardest with these three things your mission will be a success. Also that when we come to a meeting with a certain attitude or expectations you´ll get exactly what you came looking for. Just to socialize, to be spiritually fed, to just see the temple. Whatever you want you´ll get.

Which he lead off really well to the Leadership Council the next day. In the leadership council he talked about Agency. We choose. We choose literally every reaction or thought that we have. Being humans we aren´t going to excercise it perfectly but we have the ability to choose. How agency and responsibility go hand in hand, how excuses don´t bring results and are the exact oppisite of responsibility. We talked about laziness, how to avoid it, how to teach and how to be leaders. The secret to being a good leader is to be a master teacher. The best leader was our Savior, Christ whom was also The master teacher. So he told us to study and discover the way that Christ taught and lead, and try to develop the same attributes that he had and teach and lead the same way as he did. It was really good and we are really excited to teach it to our zone this Wednesday after we go to the temple.

While at the mission tour I saw Hermana DeWaal and Elder Dunn and an Hermana named Hermana Judd and she´s from the Cresent Ward so all four of us are from that same stake! Haha so of course we took some pictures and here they are! I´m very grateful for this wave of missionaries!

So this Saturday we had another baptism. We baptized German! And guess who did it??? Chirstian! Haha the guy we baptized two weeks ago affected the ordinance and baptized German! Haha it was really cool and German had a really spiritual experience during and after. After coming up out of the water Christian immediately went in to give him a hug and right after that German was just crying and I´ve never seen a bigger smile on anybody´s faces. It was really good to be able to have seen that and be one of the missionaries that had the privilege of teaching him. The girl that he´s dating who was living in London came down for the baptism and then this Friday they´re flying together to Argentina and getting married there and want to go through the Buenos Aires temple in a year to get sealed! It´s soooooo cute yet disgusting how in love they are. Haha life after the mission. Gross lovey dovey crap FOREVER (Sandlot). Should be fun right!?

Then church was really good yesterday and now we start week six of the transfer... Oh my gosh. Time´s not my friend anymore. I now officially have less than six months until I come home and I´m kind of freaking out because that isn´t enough time to do everything that needs to get done! There´s still a whole lot of Spain that hasn´t heard the gospel yet! I´m feeling good but a little anxious to get as much work done as possible this coming up week. I want to be able to look President in the eyes when I´m done and say that I´ve given it my all.

I´m feeling good. My shoes are done and I need a new pair but not problem the Lord will provide! (through generous donations from the fam ;) Love you all and thank you ssoooooo much for the support and all of the pictures I just finally got the 2015 calendar! It´s super awesome! All of the missionaries in that thing!

Love,
Elder Hawks

Please just email me pictures!!! I have seven or eight of those little picture books that you keep sending me and they´re starting to fill up my suitcase!
