Holy cow. Now I really have an appreciation for what President Jackson does. The three areas I´ve been in are 100% different along with all of the people, missionaries, ward situations and everything. Different. Fuerteventura one of them.
So to start off this week´s email I just want to explain a few of the people here on the island. The president of the branch. He´s a cool man from this island. His name is Zenón and he´s about 50ish years old. Pretty lively and he used to be a Lucha Canario (which is a type of wrestling specific to the islands) and now he bakes bread and is up all night delivering bread. Let´s just say we usually aren't lacking fresh bread. He´s a super guy who knows the potential there is here and is willing to work with us to reach these high goals.
One example of what kind of guy he is. We took him to some lessons one day and at the end of the night we had a lesson set up with a lady and her family. When the family got to the park we were at, her husband just absolutely started attacking us. Brutally. We sat there as he threw scripture after scripture at us. I got tired of it and told him off for attacking us when all we wanted to do was get to know them. Then Pres. Zenón he tried talking some "sense" into the (as we later found out) preacher and then when neither of us were making progress and he just kept yelling at us we left. In the car Zenón just started to go off about this guy and said that if he could only have a moment alone with this guy at our church or in front of the temple. Ha-ha good times. And bible bashing´s lame... booooh
Ok then after him there´s another family, la familia Barrera from the island who are all super strong members and basically make up half of the church attendance here. They´re some of the most doctrinally wise people I´ve ever met and have shown us some crazy doctrine. She asked us why Adam called Eve the mother of all living and not that she WILL be the mother of all living. Just little stuff like that, that´s always fun to learn more about.
A British guy married to a Venezuelan woman, and he basically doesn't speak Spanish and she doesn't speak English at all. Let´s just say that we have no idea how they are still married and are as happy as they are. They have four kids and they´re all really cool and active, besides one.
Then a recent convert couple from Uruguay who are basically our parents here on the island. They drink mate and it makes me think of Dad´s mission every time we´re over there or talk to them. Ha-ha they´re funny people.
Investigators: there isn't anybody super close to getting baptized but we do have some people who have been investigators for almost years. Auxi and Natalia. Auxi´s from here and has a super strong personality. She´s a girl who likes her tattoos, cigarettes (liked), and has a lot of faith. She really believes in it but she and her less active boyfriend aren't married and once they get married they want to get baptized and then in a year go to the temple. So hopefully they can take the first step while I´m here. They said December sooooo..... Hopefully!
Natalia is the complete opposite but in the same situation. She´s a sweet girl from Colombia who know´s everything about the church and all she wants is to get baptized. However she and her boyfriend aren't married either... ugh the paperwork here is a joke.
Those are all of the important people for the time being and if anymore come up I´ll let you all know. I´m doing super well. I love the guts out of all of these people and they save me here. Luckily I have a cool companion and they are all cool too so that I don´t feel like I´m alone on an island... ;)
Speaking of a companion we had a good comp inventory and now we´re really kicking as a companionship and getting along well enough to teach and to trust each other. Companions in a cause!
Love you all and thanks for the support.
Que no os olvidéis del amor del salvador...
Love,
Elder Halcones
P.s. Just interesting topics of talks, and topics to help me study. If you could just email talks to me that would be super awesome. ;))
